Balcones Distilling Prohibida Rum

Prohibida is only the 2nd ever rum expression we've released to market since Balcones Distilling began laying rum down over a decade ago. Created like all their rums, from 100% domestic molasses, but with the addition of aged dunder, Prohibida was double pot distilled then aged in entirely used cooperage, before being finished in ex-peated Balcones single malt casks. Matured for 33 months and bottled at 50% ABV.

On the nose, subtle golden notes of tapioca pudding, lemon meringues, and bruised honeysuckle intricately intertwined with faint smoky notes of distant bonfire, smoked pear, & palo santo.

Tasting Notes

The palate is playful and calm, with spritely notes of tepache, ground coriander, & grated nutmeg easing into sweet fire-roasted melon & mango custard, before long notes of ginger lemon gumdrops lace into a relaxing finish of maduro cigar smoke, clove cigarettes, & jasmine glaze.

Prohibida is subtle, yet quietly dynamic, even-tempered but playful; easily sipped from a Glencairn over a long evening with a mellow cigar, but with enough character to stand out in a Painkiller or floated on a frozen colada.
